imajme Asked: Finally, after several emails telling me it was going to happen any day now, my Starbucks app updated and I can tip my baristas from it! It got me thinking... What is the rule of thumb for a decent tip, if there is one? Thanks!

Anything you can afford to tip is good, at least as far as I’m concerned. There are people out there who will order like seven drinks all with crazy modifications and never tip a cent so even if you’re tipping the change you get back, we appreciate it. When in doubt I personally try to tip the same as I would in a restaurant - 15% to 20%…which would come out to 60-80 cents on a $4 drink, but that’s just my personal thing I do. The fact that you care enough to tip goes a long way xoxo -MB

I know that a lot of people don’t know that the tips get divvied up at the end of the week based on how many tips there were, and how many hours were worked, and then how many of those hours YOU worked. My store tends to have a dollar an hour on average. So that means, if that holds out for most stores (give or take, of course, for more or less busy places), your barista is probably, on average, making 15-20 bucks a week. And if your barista is anything like me and a lot of other baristas, those tips go straight into my gas tank to make sure I can get to work. :/ So yeah, honestly, tipping it super appreciated. We totally understand you can’t do it every time, but even leaving us the nickel left over adds up!

whenever i see these post-apocalyptic films set in the USA where everyone is pretty much just killing each other with no mention of other nations i always just assume that the rest of the world is fine and has learnt how to resume life as normal
